Back in the day, Australian singer-songwriter Alex Lloyd was the frontman for the awesome blues rock band, Mother Hubbard, who released one amazing album and then imploded. Since then, he’s reinvented himself as a mellow, melodic, and beautifully introspective solo artist, with a new album — Good In The Face Of A Stranger — to be released on November 1 through Inertia Distribution.

The Good The Bad and The Queen / Green Fields
I love this track. In saying that though, I’m usually always blown away with anything Damon Albarn does. He seems to have his finger on the pulse and I admire his constant recreation of himself, not to take anything away from Tony Allen, Paul Simonon and Simon Tong making a very interesting, collaborative sound.

Arcade Fire / Black Mirror
I saw these guys first on ‘Later with Jules’ and it blew me away. They have a massive sound, but everything seems to work in its place.

MGMT / Time to Pretend
Really clever track. These guys remind me a little of early Beck meets Bran Van 3000. It’s good to hear this sound again.

The Last Shadow Puppets / My Mistakes Were Made for You
A friend of mine turned me on to these guys and the music kind of reminds me of a spaghetti western sound track. A lot more psychedelic with a splash of Ian Brown style vocals.

Nick Cave / Dig Lazarus Dig
I love this track and album. I recently went to see Nike Cave at the Apollo in London and it blew me away. The band was great, Warren Ellis in particular.

Bon Iver / Skinny Love
This track was sent to me from a friend and everyone raves about his album. I am yet to hear the whole record but I can’t wait. It sounds really interesting.

Elbow / Station Approach
I also saw these guys playing on ‘Later with Jules’. I know they have been around for ages, but until now I wasn’t a massive fan. I really like this song and the way they present it

TV On The Radio / Halfway Home
I heard these guys in a record store and asked the guy who it was. Then I went and bought it. I love how the music is so intense and the vocals are so mellow, comparatively. It’s the most original thing I’ve heard in ages.

The first link is not to The Good, The Bad and the Queen but to The Last Shadow Puppets.
