The (International) Noise Conspiracy formed in northern Sweden in 1998 and quickly became known around the world for their self-aware political stance buoyed by their 70s-inflected rock ‘n’ roll swagger. The group has released four full-lengths, countless singles and toured the world multiple times. Frontman Lars Stromberg has written about the first four tracks in this Playlist, while drummer Ludwig Dahlberg takes on the second four.
Gal Costa / Tuareg
This being one of the more accessible tracks off this album says a lot to the fact that, out of all the tropicalistas, Gal Costa went further out into psychedelic experimenting and pure craziness. Spectacular music from a spectacular era.
The Allman Brothers Band / Mountain Jam
This extended live jam based around Donovan’s There Is A Mountain is taken from the band’s classic Fillmore East concert. The band is on fire here, and the tribute to the by then passed away Duane Allman is both fitting and magical. Eat a peach for peace!
George Harrison / Apple Scruffs
This is where George Harrison truly comes into his own, both as a lyricist and a songwriter. Getting heavily into Eastern mysticism and religion without losing his melodic genius makes this album devoted and brilliant.
Nina Simone / Come Ye
Always impressive and heavy, Nina Simone lives up to the title of this album, and creates a deep, groovy vibe with the sole accompaniment of percussion.
Miles Davis / Maiysha
Music for the future (recorded in 1974), like a Mardi Gras celebration in space directed by the mightiest man in the history of music. From the eighth and final box set in the series of unreleased Miles material, all essential.
Ramases / Life Child
A truly atmospheric and funky trip, the band’s leader really believed he was the reincarnation of the Egyptian deity, Ramases. This is with the nascent 10CC as backing musicians, one of the most spellbinding releases on the classic Vertigo label.
D’Angelo / Playa Playa
A real International Noise Conspiracy fave-classic, the soundtrack to our first US tour back in 2000. Countless hours in the van were spent listening to this magical album. Let’s hope the new one is on its way.
Dungen / Ingenting är sig likt
If David Axelrod was of Norse descent and had a studio in the Swedish woods, this is probably what his productions would have sounded like. Truly great stuff.
