Band members ry2K (Ryan Wilock), Beckstein (Jeff Beck formerly of Seismic Crew) and TDB (aka Tommy Causevski) have been establishing themselves on the music scene under a variety of monikers since the early nineties. They eventually came together as The Angry Kids in 2005, under the leadership of ry2k, who founded Popular Records (now owned by EMI) and was responsible for signing, breaking, and marketing gold and multi platinum artists Eiffel 65, Darude, ATB and Tim Deluxe. Success for The Angry Kids came swiftly. In 2006 the band acquired the sampling rights to the retro-classic track I Ran (So Far Away), by A Flock of Seagulls, which was an instant hit selling 80,0000 copies worldwide, and saw the group earn over 1600 plays at US Radio alone.
The Sex Pistols / Nevermind The Bollocks Here’s The Sex Pistols
If you don’t love The Sex Pistols, you don’t know music. The Pistols embodied everything that music should be, and to top it off, all the songs are timeless. Never will the fury they created ever be replicated. There has never been a band as important to music after their implosion. As a tribute to my heroes, I never comb my hair.
The Ramones / The Ramones
This is a piece of history. The Ramones created music that was seemingly from another time, another planet when it first came out. While their first six albums are all stellar, I will pick this one due to its historical importance — being the first ‘punk rock’ album. They lasted twenty years, despite hating each other’s guts and not speaking to each other the whole time. How awesome is that?
Black Sabbath / The Ozzy Years
Yes, it’s a boxset. Yes, it’s four CDs. Yes, it is meant to be listened to from start to finish. I once played Black Sabbath at 78 speed and saw God. At that moment, my life changed for the better. Note to self: if you plan on living off narcotics and booze for twenty years, it’s probably not a good idea to procreate.
Faith No More / Angel Dust
Faith No More were the most important band of the 90s. The 90s wasn’t exactly a glowing decade for music, though not as bad as the current one. But I digress. Listen to Faith No More and you will forget all of that. Funk, Punk, Jazz, Metal, Hip Hop, they put it all in a blender on high speed, added in the vocals of the immortal Mike Patton, and, voila, you have a musical masterpiece. Pearl Jam are a bunch of bed wetters in comparison.
Bob Marley / Exodus
Simply one of the best albums of all time. From start to finish, this record brings new meaning to the word epic. Bob was a genius, a prophet, a poet. He reminds me of myself.
Temple of The Dog / Temple Of The Dog
This is the best thing to come out of Seattle other than the Café Americano from Starbucks. Chris Cornell sends you on a journey. Too bad he keeps fancying himself as a solo artist. His solo stuff is shit.
The Basement Jaxx / Remedy
Some would say I was a bit of hypocrite if there was nothing electronic on this list. However, first and foremost, I am a fan of music. I need an all round solid album to crack my list! This album is that enjoyable from start to finish, not to mention that Red Alert is one of the most insane songs in the history of mankind.
Weezer / Weezer
Aside from Angel Dust, this is probably the only other album from the 90s I can listen to from start to finish. Rivers Cuomo is a genius. He makes these guitar driven alt-pop records capable of hitting the mainstream while still keeping a certain aura of cool about them. The band is novel, and have not lost themselves over the years either. But who could live without an instant classic like Buddy Holly?
