Formed in 2003 outside of Phoenix, Arizona, Lydia went through a few line-up changes before settling on its current roster. In 2004, they won a contest with Blink–182 owned Atticus Clothing, which resulted in their track, Your Taste is My Attention, being included on the Atticus compilation, Drag the Lake, Volume 3. To date, Lydia has over 54,000 friends on their MySpace page and over 3.9 million total plays to date — a strong indicator of the power of their connection with their fans.
The Avett Brothers / Weight Of Lies
This song and band are awesome, point blank. Both lyrically and melodically, this song draws you in as soon as they strum their first chord. It’s a journey of reflection and realization; meant to be understood, and felt.
Laura Marling / Ghosts
This is definitely our ‘hidden treasure’ artist. She is an incredible singer-songwriter. The way she approaches her folk-inspired sound really strikes a chord with us: ‘Lover please … do not fall to your knees … it’s not like I believe in everlasting love’. That is definitely the best line of the song.
Dr. Dog / Army of Ancients
Simply because it’s badass, and a fun sing along. Dr. Dog is one of the best artists to come out of Philly and this is one of those songs that makes you want to pour a drink and sing along as you begin to drown yourself.
John Legend / Green Light
John Legend’s voice is amazing; soul music with a more current and relevant twist. The music is fun, and the melody consumes you. This is one of those songs that’ll help you start a party wherever you’re at. Andre 3000 adds a brilliant accent to such a great song.
Spoon / Rhythm and Soul
It’s an innovative take on folk music. This guy writes some incredibly catchy songs. His delivery is unique and genuine. When you hear thirty seconds of any Spoon track, you know it’s them. This one happens to be one of our favorites.
Port O’Brien / I Woke Up Today
A group sing along is always a great time. The beginning of the song has this drum beat that drives you into the chord progression of the chorus/verse. Once the vocals kick in, it’s almost euphoric. This is one of those songs where the entire song is the entire band yelling at the top of their lungs, in key, with a nice string arrangement accompaniment. It’s a fun song to wake up to. When you hear it, you immediately want to learn the lyrics so on the second listen, you can also sing along at the top of your lungs.
TV On the Radio / Hours
This is an older song by a really incredible collective of musicians (the new record is amazing). The groove will put you in a completely different environment, all while offering a sense of comfort. The vocal melodies will have you howling along, and suddenly the room will feel a little bit of soul in their bones. Lyrically, this is great to sing along to, too.
The Notwist / Boneless
Wow. A perfect pop song composed by 3 dudes from Germany. These guys have been around since the late 80’s, and have made quite the impact on the music we listen to. This song was the single off of their latest record. In 30 seconds the hook is presented, and immediately grabs your attention. While the songs structure is simply redundant, each time they lyrically hit a different point in the song, they add another layer. By the end of the song, its like a gorgeous choir of sounds that weave a really beautiful ending.
