slaves to gravity

Brighton-based hard rock band Slaves To Gravity have just released their debut album, Scatter The Crow.

Stone Temple Pilots / Lounge Fly
There are so many great STP songs, but this is definitely one of my favorites. The snare and kick fill at the beginning is genius. And the chorus gets me every time. I always find myself singing along at the top of my voice. I like the acoustic guitar in the middle section, as well.

Quicksand / Can Opener
I first discovered Slip while in a second hand record store in Seattle years ago when I was eighteen. I really like the record, especially this song. I love the way it starts and the way the drums come in. The ‘You know what your advantage is’ vocal line, right before everything kicks back in at the end, is great.

Alice In Chains / Junkhead
I love Layne’s voice. It was so dark and melodic. The chorus in this song is amazing to sing to, even though the lyrical content is so dark.

Deftones / Lifter
Adrenaline completely blew me away the first time I heard it. This is one of my favorite songs on the album. I like the way it starts, with Abe hitting the kick, snare and crash. The first time the distorted guitar kicks in, it is badass, along with the chorus and the ‘Sick’ and ‘Sore’ screams at the end.

Pantera / Slaughtered
I first saw Pantera as a kid in Tokyo on their Far Beyond Driven world tour. I was in complete awe of everyone in that band. They were, and still are, a major influence in my life. I love the drumming on this track. The double bass patterns toward the end of the song are mind blowing.

36 Crazyfists / Bloodwork
I like the way the song kicks in, after the brief intro, involving the bass, drums and guitar. The groove and riff underneath Brock singing ‘Couldn’t find a better way’ is great and the chorus is awesome. I also like the line, ‘and I swallowed myself sick’.

Helmet / Like I Care
I will never get tired of the way the guitar kicks in after the drums and bass. The chorus in this song is so ridiculously melodic. I love it.

A Perfect Circle / Orestes
This song is beautiful. It reminds me of my girlfriend and home when I am on the road. Maynard’s voice is something really special. I love the line, ‘One more medicated peaceful moment’. It’s very emotional stuff.
