Renowned for her energetic live performances, female vocalist and MC, Karoline Tamati — aka Ladi6 — released her debut album, Time Is Not Much, in March. Co-produced by Mu, from Fat Freddy’s Drop, along with upcoming beatsmith, Parks, Time Is Not Much also features a guest appearance from hip-hop superstar, Scribe.

Al Green / Lay It Down
If you’ve ever liked Al Green, you will love his new album. It’s full of Al Green sultry sexyness. It makes me want to fall in love and fall asleep under the shade of a huge tree on a hot summer day. Damn!

Mayer Hawthorne / I’m Sorry
In this day and age of reproducing old Motown-like sounds, this song is one of those at its best. I really like the vocalist. And the record comes shaped as a pink love-heart.

Michael Fakesch / Track 4 from the DOS album
This funky little tune gets me in the mood for a good boogie. It’s a bit of an 80s synthy funk jam, with some soulful European vocals.

D’angelo / Spanish Joint
A classic tune in my house that gets good music-making juices flowing. As a longtime fan of D’angelo, I count this track as one of his best. The man is a genius!

Jean Grae / Keep Living
An oldy but a goodie from this lyricist from NYC. This is one of my favorites from Jean. She’s my American rap idol. She keeps it real in this song, talking about the pitfalls of her life and encouraging her people to keep livin’.

Flying Lotus / Massage Situation
I’m always in love with a good beat, and Flying Lotus is one of my favorites. This track is on all my home-made compilations. It’s something that keeps me interested and my head nodding.

The Roots / Guns Are Drawn
I really like this track but I like most the tracks off the Tipping Point. You can’t beat a great hook.

Talib Kwel / Track 11 off the Ear Drum album
It might be called, We All Going To Hell? It features one of my favorite singers in Erykah Badu. I love this song because it’s real. Anyone who has had conflict about religion will find solace and understanding in a song like this.
