Evoking the classic storytelling of Bob Dylan, the weathered romanticism of U2, the sweet vocals of Van Morrison, and the pop sensibilities of Coldplay, the UKs latest sensations, Passenger, have recently released their brilliant debut, album Wicked Man’s Rest [Inertia].

The Smiths / There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
This just makes me feel alive and dance around like a lunatic.

John Prine / Sam Stone
For me, it’s one of the saddest and most poignant songs ever written. It’s about a Vietnam War veteran and is absolutely beautiful.

Bon Iver / Flume
This was my record of the year, I think. It’s got many highlights, but Flume is the opening track and is immediately engaging and beautiful.

Bonnie Prince Billy / I See A Darkness
What can I say about this song? Bonnie Prince Billy is a fragile and brilliant writer and this is his finest moment.

Fleet Foxes / White Winter Hymnal
I was sitting on Brighton beach in the sun a few weeks ago with my iPod on shuffle and this song came on and just filled me with joy. Incredible live as well.

Kate Bush / Running Up That Hill
This reminds me of my childhood and is just a lovely sentiment.

Neil Young / Don’t Let It Bring You Down
It could have been any number of Neil Young songs, but this was the first one that came to mind. Genius.

Radiohead / All I Need
I think I just changed my mind about my record of 2008. In Rainbows blew my mind. How can Radiohead still be the best band in the world? Experimental but always remaining true to brilliant songs and everything they touch oozes taste. A truly brilliant song from a truly remarkable band.
