David Cook, My Favorite Highway

my favorite highway

My Favorite Highway hail from suburban Washington DC. in March 2008, the members took the money they’d earned from selling more than 18,000 digital and physical copies of their 2006 EP Anywhere But Here (more than 75,000 of its tracks have been downloaded from iTunes) and used it to record How to Call A Bluff with their friend and producer Paul Barber and mixing engineer Jeff Juliano (John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Jason Mraz). The result is a compelling showcase for David’s uplifting melodies and expressive vocals, Pat and David’s dynamic guitar and piano textures, and Will and Bobby’s rock-solid rhythm section.

John Mayer / Free Fallin’ [Tom Petty Cover]
This is one of my favorite songs to begin with, but the way John Mayer covers it is amazing. I love how he took an already amazing song and made it even better. This song easily has over hundred play counts on my iTunes.

Keith Urban / Sweet Thing
I know summer is still a couple of weeks away, but this is definitely my summer track right now. I’m a big country fan, especially when the weather starts warming up. This is the perfect feel good song.

Taylor Swift / Forever and Always
Taylor is one of my favorite songwriters, I know she’s young and her song topics are a bit juvenile, but her choice of words an melody are excellent, I don’t think she’s written a song I don’t like. I love the chorus to this song. I saw her live a couple of weeks ago and this became my personal favorite.

The Wallflowers / One Headlight
One of the greatest songs of the nineties, this song is ridiculously simple, which is one of the reasons it’s such an amazing song. If you listen closely you’ll hear that the drummer doesn’t play any cymbals throughout the entire song except for the hi-hat.

Miley Cyrus / The Climb
As cheesy as this song is, it’s a very well written song. I’m not sure who wrote it, but evokes a certain emotion that I can definitely relate with. This is one of those songs that every time I listen to it, I wish that I had written it.

Rascal Flatts / She’d Be California
First of all, Gary LeVox has one of the most amazing voices I’ve ever heard. Secondly, this is my favorite record of 2009. Thirdly, I love California, and I love this song because it makes me feel like I’m cruising around Southern California with my windows down.

Third Eye Blind / My Hit And Run
This is one of those songs I wish had a music video. Every time I listen to this song I have this mental music video that I play in my head and it’s very cool. Third Eye Blind is one of my favorite bands and I love just about every song they’ve written, but this one especially stands out to me to because it has a lot of cool imagery in it. It also has one of the coolest guitar riffs I’ve ever heard.

Demi Lovato / The Middle
I think Demi is a very talented artist and she’s going keep getting better and better as she gets older. This song has a lot of attitude. I love the chorus and the pre-chorus. This might be a girly pop song, but I still think it’s pretty badass.
