Three-piece Bleech hail from London’s East End. Still reeling from the success of debut single, Is It True That Boys Don’t Cry?, these young upstarts bagged a place in the final in the Road To V competition, from more than 3,000 submissions. Things are set to get even busier as the band have confirmed the first ever residency at KOKO’s Club NME. They play a melodic, grungy, guitar-led sound reminiscent of Nineties Brit Pop. Their second single, The Worthing Song, is out on August 17th through Billie Records.
Blur / This Is A Low
We recently had the privilege of seeing Blur twice on their ‘comeback’ this summer, at Goldsmiths University (capacity 400) and Hyde Park (capacity 50,000). This wasn’t a ‘comeback’, Blur never left. They were two completely different gigs, both equally as good but This Is A Low was for me a stand out track at both gigs.
Coldplay / Daylight
This song was never released. It’s an album track on A Rush Of Blood To The Head. I listened to this album on repeat one summer holiday in Greece. Now every time I hear this song, I am back in Thassos. I can hear the sea, smell that warm sticky smell … you’ll know if you have ever been anywhere like Greece. And for that, I’m a sucker when this song comes on.
Nirvana / Come As You Are
Like many, I’m a big Nirvana fan. Like many, I am aware Nevermind was Kurt Cobain’s least favourite album. Lots of people would argue the other albums are more of what Nirvana were about. But this album is genius. So, sorry Kurt, but this is a great song. Nevermind.
The Beatles / Come Together
I was contemplating whether or not I should include a Beatles track as there are too many to choose from. I could have picked eight Beatles songs and still not include all the ones I wanted. But Come Together is timeless.
Magna Saga / The First and The Last
We have played with this band quite a few times around Camden now. We have played over 100 gigs this year, and there are four bands on each bill. That’s a lot of unsigned bands we’ve seen. These are the best out there. This track isn’t even recorded, so you will have to go see them live to hear it. This is the best track I’ve heard all year.
ZZ Top / Gimme All Your Loving
With long drives to gigs and many hours spent in our trustworthy van, Beryl, the only way to pass time is listening to music. We have quite a repetitive playlist, and this always seems to come up. This is such a good song and great to drive to. It gets you in the mood for a gig.
Jeff Buckley / Grace
I have only recently gotten into Jeff Buckley, but this song is classic. I think it’s the chord changes and his voice and stuff. I don’t know really what to say about this song except I think it’s amazing.
T-Rex / Cosmic Dancer
When I was younger, Billy Elliot was my favourite film ever. Plus, it has an amazing soundtrack. I admit it was the film that got me into T-Rex and I hadn’t discovered them sooner. But it was a great introduction to a great band. Go Billy Go!
