The Penelopes

For their latest album, Stuck In Lalaland, French duo, The Penelopes, left their home studio for that of Arnaud Rebotini, the man behind Zend Avesta and Blackstrobe. They cover Statik Dancin, the original anthem praised by James Murphy, and revisit the Beastie Boys’ Sabotage. Their friend Chloe Delaume takes vocals on the songs Stains and 4′47.

Slowdive / When The Sun Hits

We’re big fans of shoegazing tunes. While everyone tends to mention My Bloody Valentine, we actually prefer Ride and Slowdive. In general, we like songs with a real pop music approach. These bands have the perfect balance between pop music and noise.

TV On The Radio / Staring At The Sun
This is the best single of the 00s and the best band of the 00s (together with Arcade Fire). It’s a daze to listen to: a pure tension and frustration that makes you want to listen the song again and again.

The Silures / Fishnets
This is what a modern pop song should be. The Silures is a side project between the LA-based singer, Linda Lamb, and our friend Vitalic, a French producer. This is the only electronic track we would like to compose and produce.

Gang of Four / Damaged Goods
A classical punk funk song. It’s rough and at the same time epic.

The Glove / Mr Alphabet
A psychedelic side project of Robert Smith from The Cure and Steve Severin. This is one of our favorite albums ever. In the contract, Robert Smith actually didn’t have the right to sing the entire album. The demos, which were sung by him, and recently released are simply incredible.

Pixies / La La Love You
A strange surf song not interpreted by Frank Black. It’s sung by the drummer Dave Lovering. We love his voice and think he sounds a bit like Morrissey.

Joe Smooth / Promised Land
Melancholy and electronic funkiness – a perfect combination.

Happy Mondays / WFL
This band has an unique and twisted groove. We often forget that these guys have a big musical culture.

Frankie Knuckles / Your Love
A house anthem but also a perfect pop song, funky and hypnotic.
