From Glasgow, Scotland, Twin Atlantic have been the main support for bands such as Circa Survive, Biffy Clyro, Lostprophets, Finch, Thrice, Funeral for a Friend, and The Smashing Pumpkins.
Nirvana / In Bloom
I love this track for it’s childlike melody. In fact, talking about Nirvana this way kind of ruins the band for me, so I’ll just say I love the lyrics and the bridge section in the middle that builds suspense but also has rubber duck squeaks and an awesome guitar melody that they pay off with at the end.
The Appleseed Cart / Ascending Sun
This is taken from one of the greatest records I have ever heard. It’s called Peregrine and this is one of the most uplifting songs from the track listing. The halftime chorus always gets me.
Mogwai / Auto Rock
No explanation really required here. If you haven’t heard this track, you will know why it’s so great after one listen. We listened to it in our van coming home from Download Festival the other day, driving past the welcome to Scotland sign. It does not get any more epic than that.
Weezer / Hash Pipe
This song has a singalong quality that will never die and an amazing sounding recording to go with it. Any time this gets played or comes on my Ipod, I feel a bit more confident. Hahaha! I think it might be something to do with the attitude the song carries.
Bruce Springsteen / Atlantic City
This is taken from the album Nebraska. It’s a solo record without the E Street Band and it is really timeless, like all of his songs are, but this one stands out for me. The way Springsteen makes your mind paint a picture from the lyrics is insane. No one else captures a story as well as he does through music, and this song is a pretty good example. The record finnaly got released as the demo versions, done on a four track tape player, as it was more haunting than the full studio version done with the E Street Band. And that probably shows why this is such a great song. Just straight-forward storytelling.
At The Drive In / One Armed Scissor
Visceral heavy angular energy that has vocal hooks and gets me in the mood for … anything.
Blink 182 / Dammit
To make me feel fourteen again and to hear people argue over whether Blink are amazing or shit.
Clint Mansell / Lux Aeterna
This is the theme music to the movie Requiem For A Dream. I would finish the Playlist with this song just to make myself feel weird. Weird in the way that you don’t know if, at the end of the score, you want to be dead or alive. It’s just a bit too intense, especially if you are walking home from a quiet train station, at night, alone, and in Glasgow. I did that every night for a year and it fucked my mind. You should try it.
