Anna Rose has always known she would perform and record as a singer, songwriter, and guitarist-pianist who would release an album such as Nomad, her upcoming debut, which she co-produced with William (Billy) Sullivan, five songs from which comprise her sensational current Anna Rose EP. And she has always been a little nuts about guitars. She started playing at age five, after an older cousin brought one along to a holiday family gift exchange.

The Dead Weather / 60 Feet Tall
I am obsessed with The Dead Weather right now. They are such a great rock band. So much energy, great musicianship. This song in particular just feels really good in my bones. It has that bluesy heaviness that I love.

Peaches / Mud
Amazing beat, and I love the harmonies in the hook. Peaches rules because she is so unique and unapologetic. The lyrics are also so great. I listen to her when I am getting ready to go out because it gets me in the mood to party, but I am also really inspired by her.

Jimi Hendrix / Manic Depression
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. The music and lyrics are both so in sync with the theme of the song. Jimi Hendrix could play the guitar like no one else can and this song, in particular, shows his ability to channel the emotion of a song through his guitar.

Pixies / Hey
‘Must be a devil between us’. Incredible lyrics! There’s a simplicity to this song that makes it perfect. No bells and whistles, just simply great performances that, put together, make an amazing song. Not to mention that the bass line is unbelievable sexy.

Florence and The Machine / Blinding
Her voice sounds so gorgeous on this track! I was initially drawn to Florence when a friend from the U.K. introduced her music to me and now I find myself listening to this song on repeat, which is very rare for me, each time focusing on a different aspect. Her voice has such depth and wisdom, which makes the string parts sound so heavenly in contrast. Meanwhile, when the drums come in, I get goosebumps. The song develops into a gorgeous symphony of sound.

Carly Simon / Angel From Montgomery
Sometimes you just need a little Carly Simon to make you feel good. Her songwriting puts you in the moment with her, living with her, which is why I think people love her so much. She’s not overproduced, so the song and her writing really shines through.

Kings of Leon / Closer
There’s so much intensity in this song, the build-up is so great. I love the guitar sound they achieved and the vocals have the perfect amount of grit in them, while the steadiness of the drums keep the whole song together.

Jay-Z / D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)
His lyrics relay my sentiments exactly about the music industry right now. There’s so much dishonest music out there and the industry is filled with people who are only in it for the money, not because they love the art of music. Besides my feelings about the state of the music business, I’m from New York, so Jay-Z is the musical equivalent to the Empire State Building to me.
