Flood Of Red

flood of red

UK band Flood Of Red have recently released their debut album Leaving Everything Behind on their own label Dark City. Produced by Brian McTernan (Cave In, Thrice, Converge), Leaving Everything Behind sees the band making a leap into new territories. Toned-down and refined, Flood of Red now paint from a broader musical palette, incorporating the ambient and soundscape elements that earlier recordings hinted at, but without ever compromising the heavy blow they’ve been praised for.

Coconut / Fever Ray
This is a song I can listen to anytime, anywhere, and it will send me to a totally different place. The line ‘Take me anywhere, take me there’, sums up how I feel when I’m listening to it. It has an incredibly powerful atmosphere for just one woman to create. The different sounds used, the vocal production and the slow progression of the song all combine to create an eerie, yet refreshing masterpiece.

This Will Destroy You / A Three Legged Workhorse
Since I first heard this song, I’ve listened to it nearly every night before I go to sleep. It knocks me out. It’s very well crafted and the dynamics are perfect.

Maylene and The Sons Of Disaster / Step Up (I’m On It)
This song is one of my favourite tracks. I mostly enjoy the guitar work on this track and how it changes throughout the song. If you haven’t checked this band out, I would highly recommend them.

Thrice / In Exile
Thrice have always shown strong musical progressions across every album. Their latest offering, however, holds back on the previously polished sounds and has a wonderfully organic feel to it. This song especially, stripped down to the basics or not, is just a fantastic track.

Mewithoutyou / O Porcupine
This is track from their third album, Brother, Sister, which is one of my all-time favourite albums. I think this is a really stand out track from the album and it’s a song that’s always stuck in my head. It’s also my ringtone. The music is incredible and the vocal lines and lyrics are truly inspiring.

Refused / Worms Of The Senses
This is the first Refused song I ever learned to play on the drums and it is the best opening song from possibly the best album ever recorded. Everything about this song is perfect! I can see The Shape of Punk To Come being listened to for many generations and inspiring many of the world’s future rock bands!

The Xcerts / Do You Feel Safe?
This is an exceptional song by a Scottish band who are good friends of ours. Everything about this song gives you goose bumps, from the technically perfect drumming to the haunting piano and the powerful vocals. One of the best live bands in the world.

The Ghost of A Thousand / New Toy
Another amazing song by good friends of ours. These guys are the best live band we’ve ever had the opportunity to play with and on record they are just as good. 2 minutes 58 seconds of in your face quality punk rock!
