fuck buttons

Fuck Buttons, the duo of Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power, recorded their new album Tarot Sport at Rotters Golf Club Studio in London with DJ, producer and remixer Andrew Weatherall on production duties. Tarot Sport is an album in which Fuck Buttons continue to refine, craft, explore and develop the experimental aesthetic of last year’s critically acclaimed debut album, Street Horrrsing. As Power says, ‘I think it sounds a lot thicker than our previous work — our brains kind of went into meltdown’.

Philip Glass / Floe
The repetition in this track is stunning and mesmerising. I’ve been listening to loads of techno recently and can hear it in this track in particular.

Basic Channel / Enforcement
This track is what made me think of Floe as a Techno song. The driving and repetition to create a relentless rhythm is incredible.

Kate Bush / Army Dreamers
I really like listening to this song. It’s incredibly comforting. It’s so short, though. I have to keep repeating it when I listen to it.

El Perro Del Mar / Do Not Despair
Another comforting song. I like repeating this one lots when i listen to it late at night. It’s beautiful.

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds / The Mercy Seat
it’s so powerful and driving. i never want this to finish when it’s all constantly building up towards the end. an adrenalin enducing epic. great lyrics too.

Ennio Morricone / Il Mercenario (L’Arena)
this will be played at my funeral. it’s the most hopeful piece of music i have ever heard. just incredible.

Negative Approach / Nothing
this goes on if i’m walking and need to get somewhere fast.

Tenor Saw, Burro Banton, Cutty Ranks, Supercat live, 1985
i’m including a video on here as this is my favourite sound in dancehall and it’s quite hard to find on record. i watch watch videos form this era of dancehall more than i tend to listen to them on records. it comes across with more of an edge when you can experience crowd reaction and get a slight idea of the atmosphere at these shows. at 3:00 when Cutty Ranks comes in. Wow
