Historics have just released their compelling debut album Strategies For Apprehension (Metropolitan Indian Records). The band is an all-star team featuring Don Devore (Amazing Baby; The Icarus Line; Ink & Dagger), Mickey Madden (Maroon 5), Josh Grubb (VietNam), Jeff Knutsen (Fast Fourier), and Matt Werth (Favourite Sons). The album is as eclectic as it is distinct, featuring art-rock soundcapes and bittersweet melodies.
The Rising Storm / Bright Lit Blue Skies
Beautiful yearning melodic garage from Andover, MA, 1967.
Magma / Kobaia Is De Hundin
Really intense choral French prog from 1973.
Eddie Gale / The Rain
Gang vocal folk free-ish-hard bop inspirational freak out
H.A.W.K. / I Can Make You Dance
Classic Houston from the heyday.
A.R. & Machines / Der Mann in Nappa
Beautiful, intense, layered Krautrock.
Roy Shirley / Get In The Groove
One of the all-time greatest voices in reggae. This is pure bittersweet aching soul, even on a song simply about dancing.
The Verlaines / Lying In State
Quintessential New Zealand jangly noisy pop
Ernie Graham / Blues to Snowy
Sadly forgotten chills-inducing early 70s singer-songwriter, with a bluesy brilliance.
