The Good The Bad

the good the bad

The Good The Bad are three Danish desperados, bringing the finest New School Surf and Flamenco to the masses.
In the space of just a year, were invited to play Roskilde Festival, German showcase festival Popkomm in Berlin, and do a Christmas mini-tour in London, followed by a quick jaunt to Norway. In 2009, after more English fun at Liverpool Sound City, Hop Farm Festival and a Harley Davidson European Rally in Latvia, TGTB rocked THE KILLERS aftershow party after their Royal Albert Hall gig in London.

The Sonics / Strychnine
The production of this song and whole album Here Are The Sonics is, for me, the essence of the sound of rock n’ roll. It just sounds right.

Druids Of Stonehenge / Speed
This track is brilliant for its dry sound and steady build-up. It was released in 1968 and has amazing drum production, which you especially notice in the intro. I like the naive way the song is performed, and the synchronized swing they all have together is enviably notable.

The Golden Dawn / Starvation
The two guitarists playing each of their riffs in each of their speakers throughout the whole song is the basic joy in this track, together with the two vocals (who are singing synchronised tones and infectious lyrics with a lots of good turns of phrase). The track picks up when one of the two guitars jumps out of the constant riff and kicks in to a raucous solo. It sounds like a retarded man (who’s just been allowed to escape from the madhouse at lunchtime) playing on an instrument he has only seen pictures of before. It’s just an amazing solo.

The Painted Faces / I Lost You In My Mind
Sometimes music and lyrics just fit perfectly together. And sometimes music can describe a feeling you can’t say with words. That’s the case in this track. The riff, which starts and continues throughout the whole song, is just the saddest riff. In this case, it is the lyrics which support the music and not the music that supports the lyrics.

The Setting Son / Spring of Hate
The feeling you get as the chorus starts is beautiful. All the instruments are playing their own little melody without it becoming messy. And together with the lyrics, it creates a great atmosphere.

Baby Woodrose / Baby Blows Your Mind
The first time I heard this track was at a party where it was played on pink vinyl. And my mind was blown away. This song is the title song from the album and conveys the whole essence of this band. The record is one of the best studio albums ever made since 1969.

The Who / Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere
The Who are one of the best bands ever throughout the history of rock. This live recording from a TV show shows this very clearly. It is not a matter of good songwriting or technical skill. It’s about being a young desperate kid who can’t find out where he belongs. All these frustrations you can hear in every single attack on the guitar. It’s a brilliant performance and much better than the studio version. Like many other songs by The Who, it’s much better live than in the studio.

The Velvet Underground / Guess I’m Falling In Love
Normally I do not care about The Velvet Underground. I often think there’s too much heroin in their veins for me to understand them. But with this track, I’m totally with them. The sound and the steady groove, interrupted only by a few guitar breaks, can stun people into silence.
