UK rapper MC Trip, aka Alex Child, has a new album out — Shortcuts — which has been described as a ‘kaleidoscopic expedition through a litany of contradictions, the joy and pain, the excitement and boredom of a life lived in the city’.

Bright Eyes / No One Would Riot For Less
It’s topical yet subtle. His delivery has a vulnerable, pleading feel to it. I love it. The guy’s lyrics are so poignant and poetic. Its hard to pick a favourite Bright Eyes song, but this one gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. He’s like today’s Bob Dylan.

professor green

Hackney’s original battle rapper Professor Green has recently released a new single, Hard Night Out, and B-side, Upper Clapton Dance. Hard Night out hits out with bouncy basslines, dizzy drumbeats and synths, shifting from pop to grime to rock and all the way back to rap again.

Fink / If Only
In relation to what I’m expected to listen to as an urban artist, this is quite a guilty pleasure. I particularly like the line referencing each others new partners, followed by ‘if only’.
