beasts of bourbon

Iconic band Beasts Of Bourbon are a part of Australian folklore and have played at every major local festival, from Homebake to the Big Day Out.

Can / Vitamin C
Can always manage to be minimalist, and repetitious, hippy and punk, busy and spacious, simultaneously. As always, Damo Suzuki does a great cut snake impression. The bass and drums provide the hooks, leaving guitars and keyboards to provide atmosphere. It sounds absolutely contemporary but was recorded back in the mid-seventies. we were promised jetpacks

Boasting perhaps the greatest band name on the planet, Scottish four-piece We Were Promised Jetpacks releaesed their debut album, These Four Walls, on Pod Records [Inertia]. Standing alongside the likes of Frightened Rabbit, Glasvegas, and The Twilight Sad as leading figures in Scotland’s indie-rock renaissance, the band’s first full-length was recorded almost entirely live.

White Noise / Love Without Sound
A bizarre pop song. It seems to have been created in a time vacuum in a place that’s never existed. I can’t even begin to think of how extremely hard and time-consuming it must have been making music like this in the 60s. The amazing thing is how delicate and sensitive this actually sounds.

fuck buttons

Fuck Buttons, the duo of Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power, recorded their new album Tarot Sport at Rotters Golf Club Studio in London with DJ, producer and remixer Andrew Weatherall on production duties. Tarot Sport is an album in which Fuck Buttons continue to refine, craft, explore and develop the experimental aesthetic of last year’s critically acclaimed debut album, Street Horrrsing. As Power says, ‘I think it sounds a lot thicker than our previous work — our brains kind of went into meltdown’.

Philip Glass / Floe
The repetition in this track is stunning and mesmerising. I’ve been listening to loads of techno recently and can hear it in this track in particular.
