The New Loud is a three-piece electro/punk/new wave band from Milwaukee, WI. Their debut EP, Can’t Stop Not Knowing, consists of six tracks, including a frenetic cover of Radiohead’s 2 + 2 = 5. The EP was produced by band member Shane Olivo and displays a tight mixture of electronic elements and natural sounds, layered obsessively, with some songs using up to 80 tracks in the mix.
Liz Phair / Fuck and Run Without Liz Phair there would be no Tegan and Sara or Sex In The City for that matter. Liz Phair took all the visceral thoughts lying publicly dormant inside the female id and put them all out in the open and she did it as if it was all part of everyday conversation.
Three-piece Bleech hail from London’s East End. Still reeling from the success of debut single, Is It True That Boys Don’t Cry?, these young upstarts bagged a place in the final in the Road To V competition, from more than 3,000 submissions. Things are set to get even busier as the band have confirmed the first ever residency at KOKO’s Club NME. They play a melodic, grungy, guitar-led sound reminiscent of Nineties Brit Pop. Their second single, The Worthing Song, is out on August 17th through Billie Records.
Blur / This Is A Low We recently had the privilege of seeing Blur twice on their ‘comeback’ this summer, at Goldsmiths University (capacity 400) and Hyde Park (capacity 50,000). This wasn’t a ‘comeback’, Blur never left. They were two completely different gigs, both equally as good but This Is A Low was for me a stand out track at both gigs.
Formed in New York City by Australian brothers Isaac and Thorry Koren, The Kin’s sound is rooted in 90s Brit-pop. The brothers released their debut album, Tracing, in 2004, followed by Red and Black in 2005, Live at the Pussy Cat in 2006, and Rise and Fall in 2007.
Nirvana / Lounge Act This song caps off one of my favourite pop albums of all time. The melody drives, builds and repeats until it explodes.
In Case of Fire are a progressive rock band that formed in Northern Ireland in 2005. Since then they have toured and played with bands such as Fightstar, Biffy Clyro, Enter Shikari, 30 Seconds to Mars and Queens of the Stone Age.
Jeff Buckley / Grace From the haunting guitar intro to the incredible high notes, this song is everything that was great about Jeff Buckley. One of the most talented artists of all time.
People in Planes are a five piece indie rock band from Cardiff, Wales, signed to Wind-Up Records. They have a new album out, Beyond The Horizon, which is a follow-up on their 2006 debut release, As Far As The Eye Can See.
Foals / Hummer Why? Simple. When you need to get the party started and all else is failing, just throw on this tune and watch the room start vibrating as if an Ann Summers party has just kicked off in your next door neighbour’s house. Just read that last sentence back and it sounds like some really bad advertising slogan. Hell, just go with it.
